Surf & Soul (surfandsoul.co) is published by Brand Rebel Media, Inc., a Florida corporation. This page explains what information we collect when you visit, why we collect it, and what choices you have. We've written it in plain English on purpose — if anything is unclear, email us at hello@surfandsoul.co and we'll explain.

The short version

We don't ask you to create an account, and we don't collect your name, email, or payment information just for reading our articles. What we do use is standard advertising and analytics technology — cookies and pixels — that helps us understand our traffic and measure whether our advertising works. The details are below.

What we collect

Information you give us

The only personal information we collect directly is what you choose to send us — for example, if you email us or use our contact form, we'll have your email address and whatever you write. We use it to reply to you, and for nothing else.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we use cookies and tracking pixels from advertising and analytics partners. When you visit, these tools may automatically collect things like your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at our site. Specifically:

Meta Pixel (Facebook/Instagram): helps us measure the performance of ads we run on Meta platforms and understand which content resonates with visitors who arrive from those ads. Meta's own privacy policy governs what Meta does with this data.
Taboola Pixel: does the same for content-recommendation ads we run through Taboola's network. Taboola's privacy policy governs their use of this data.
Google Analytics (GA4): standard website analytics that helps us understand how visitors find and use the site — pages viewed, session length, and general (non-precise) location. Google's privacy policy governs their use of this data; you can opt out of Google Analytics across the web with Google's browser add-on.
Impact: affiliate measurement technology that transforms eligible partner links and records impressions and clicks so purchases or other qualifying actions can be attributed to Surf & Soul. Impact's privacy policy governs its use of this data.
Vercel Analytics (when enabled): privacy-focused site analytics that tells us aggregate things like page views and load times. It does not use cookies to track you individually across sites.

Affiliate links

Many articles on Surf & Soul contain affiliate links — see our Affiliate Disclosure for the full, honest explanation. When you click one of these links, the destination URL typically includes a click identifier (a random tracking ID) so the merchant or affiliate network can credit us if you make a purchase. This ID doesn't contain your name or contact information; it identifies the click, not you. Once you leave our site, the merchant's own privacy policy applies.

We do not sell your personal information in the everyday sense of the word. The pixels described above may qualify as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under some state privacy laws — your rights around that are covered below.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them. You can also opt out of interest-based advertising through:

Blocking cookies won't break the reading experience here — our articles work fine without them.

Your privacy rights (California and other states)

If you live in California, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we've collected about you, to request deletion of it, to correct it, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Residents of other states with comprehensive privacy laws (including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Texas, among others) have similar rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@surfandsoul.co with "Privacy Request" in the subject line. Tell us what you'd like us to do, and we'll respond within the timeframe your state's law requires (typically 45 days). We won't discriminate against you for exercising your rights — though as a practical matter, since we don't hold accounts or profiles on our readers, most requests will be short conversations.

Because we don't collect names or emails from ordinary visitors, we may need to ask you for enough information to locate anything we might hold about you (for example, the email address you used to contact us).

Children

Surf & Soul is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.

Data retention

Contact-form and email correspondence is kept as long as needed to handle your inquiry and for reasonable record-keeping, then deleted. Pixel, analytics, and affiliate-measurement data is held by the respective platforms (Meta, Taboola, Google, Impact, Vercel) under their own retention policies.

Links to other sites

Our articles link to merchants, manufacturers, and other publications. We're not responsible for their privacy practices — once you leave surfandsoul.co, their policies apply. We encourage you to read them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Meaningful changes won't apply retroactively to information collected before the change.
